Looking past 2020

As we pass into a new year, it is often the time people reflect on the past cycle and put thought into their intentions going forward. I don’t know that necessarily subscribe to the annual ritual and it’s celebrations, but reflection is never bad if you are seeking to learn.

So, with that in mind, I set out with a few goals:

Get the Website out of Hibernation

The first of the goals was to get my website fixed up and running (after almost a year of sitting in a WIP state…) and reflective of who I am and my ambitions as a person. So far so good on this one, and it’s satisfying to see such instant results when I apply myself to the task. This site has taken a few turns, but now it does seem to reflect honestly who I am and who I want to be.

Consistent Progress Tracking for Factor

The next thing that came to mind was the genuine desire to see my young horse become a fantastic partner. My intention is to make more regular posts in this blog, and keep track of Factor’s training milestones. He is, as all thoroughbreds, a year older with the new year, but in particular his physical birth date is the end of January. He is maturing, and growing up.

As I track his progress, I hope I can find crossover insights, maybe glean things about his personality as I reflect, and who knows - maybe someone will read our adventures and get some ideas of their own. We are currently at a boarding facility that has a racetrack but only a grass riding field, so we’ll be getting creative in the winter months.

Thoroughbred Makeover?

Along with Factor and generally tracking his progress, a friend of mine nudged me to consider the RRP Thoroughbred Makeover challenge, for which Factor is eligible. There’s a lot to consider, but ultimately it might be just the undertaking to keep busy with during the extended COVID season.

Work / Life Balance

This one is probably the most important thing for my overall well-being. I’m a bit type-A when it comes to my work, and I definitely would be the first to admit being a workaholic. After a lot of reflection on this past year, my personal happiness, and my overall hopes for my life, it is a balance I cannot ignore finding.

Winding it down - I can feel my mental energy shifting from writing - expect to see more of these, now that this site is up. And for anyone out there reading…well, I really hope you enjoy!
